This Valentine's Day weekend the Northeast will be experiencing Extreme Winter Weather. It is imperative that you are prepared for the coldest temperatures of the season as they can be life threatening. SERVPRO of Midtown Manhattan wants everyone to stay safe during this Arctic Blast.
Staying Warm Yourself:
Layers on layers
wear a base layer to wick sweat away and prevent a chill
wear an insulating layer to trap your own body heat
wear a shell to protect yourself from wind and remain dry
Cover exposed skin
hats and gloves - wind chills could lead to frostbite
Watch for signs of Hypothermia
shivering
shallow breathing
confusion
drowsiness
slurred speech
loss of coordination
weak pulse
Staying Warm in Your Home:
Preventing Frozen Pipes
leave a small trickle of hot and cold water running
keep all cabinet doors open
keep the building warm
Prevent overworking your Furnace
run ceiling fans clockwise recirculating warm air
keep south facing curtains open allowing the sun to help heat your home
Do NOT use a stove or oven to heat your home
either can easily start a fire in your home
